Barcelona Begin Negotiations With Players On Wage Cut

Barcelona have invited their players into negotiations regarding a blanket wage reduction for all staff members, but the players will not attend as they await an entirely separate meeting.

It has been reported that Barca are looking to reduce all salaries, club-wide, by around 30 per cent, but the club’s players are not on board with that pay cut.

In response, the players are expected to resort to legal recourse if their demands are not met.

They believe playing staff contracts should be treated separately to the board of directors and all other non-playing staff employees.

That stance has since been backed by the Spanish Footballers’ Association (AFE), who said the process so far “suffers from serious formal defects”.

On Wednesday, the Nou Camp outfit announced that they would like to bring players into the discussions as they look to meet this season’s budget.

The Catalan club kicked off their Champions League campaign on Tuesday, taking down Hungarian side Ferencvaros 5-1.
