Dean Henderson To Replace David De Gea As Man United No.1?

Dean Henderson To Replace David De Gea As Man United No.1?

It’s time Dean Henderson replaced David de Gea as Manchester United’s first-choice goalkeeper, that’s the thinking of England legend Peter Shilton.

And he believes the 23-year-old could choose to depart if he doesn’t get regular first-team football at Old Trafford.

Henderson was linked with a number of moves this summer but the Spaniard opted to remain at parent club United instead, and he faces a battle with De Gea for the No.1 shirt.

It’s still early days, but it does appear as though – barring any more huge errors from De Gea – the England international may just be used as a cup keeper by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this year.

Speaking to talkSPORT 2, the Three Lions great said: “I think he’s made his choice, he seems to have said: ‘I’m going to stay at United and I’m ready for the big stage’.

“It’s a big club to play for, you’re under the microscope week-in, week-out as a goalkeeper.

“But with the way De Gea is playing at the moment and has been for a little while, I think maybe he’ll get his chance soon.

“And he should do, because David is not having the best of times and some of the goals that are going past him…

“But I think Dean Henderson probably deserves his chance now, and De Gea probably needs a bit of a rest. He’s not in great form.

“I’m just being honest.

“It can be a very frustrating time. If he doesn’t get in I think he probably would want to go somewhere he’s playing first-team football again.”
