Domestic Transfer: Mourinho To Go Against Transfer Policy And Sign This Star

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has been urged to go against his usual transfer policy and buy Joe Rodon from Swansea before the domestic transfer window closes.

Former Spurs striker Darren Bent believes the Welsh youngster would be a great addition.

Spurs had an impressive transfer window, forking out £80million on new players while also bringing Gareth Bale back to the club on loan.

However, the one position they missed out on was a centre-back.

Instead, they started looking a little closer to home, with Swansea’s Rodon an alternative target.

Swansea are reluctant to sell, and value the 22-year-old at £22m, and Spurs are reportedly ready to test the waters with a £18m bid.

And speaking to Football Insider, ex-Spurs striker Bent explained that signing Rodon would be a deviation from Mourinho’s usual transfer strategy, as the Portuguese boss usually buys more experienced players.

However, he urged Spurs to take the plunge and sign the defender, claiming Rodon would be a “shrewd” signing.

Bent said: “When you think about it, it’s not really like Mourinho to go and get a youngster and try and coach them up to be a top centre-half.

“For me, he would be a very shrewd signing if they were to go and get him.’’
