European Fixtures You Should Watch This Weekend

Following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, all English football has been postponed this weekend.

Her Majesty passed away on Thursday following a reign that lasted over 70 years, bringing the country into a state of mourning.

As a result, the Premier League and all EFL divisions have postponed this weekend’s fixtures, while the WSL have also postponed what was set to be the first round of the 2022/23 season.

In the absence of the usual abundance of English football to get lost on over the course of a weekend, plenty of football fans are going to have to look elsewhere.

While English football pauses, the likes of La Liga, Serie A, Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga are all still going ahead, which still gives fans plenty of football to watch in the absence of their usual choice.

Be sure to read on below to discover some of the weekend’s best European fixtures.

Saturday 10 September

RB Leipzig vs Borussia Dortmund – 14:30 BST

The two sides that are best equipped when it comes to potentially dethroning Bayern Munich atop of the Bundesliga, viewers are in for a treat on Saturday afternoon with this one.

Marco Rose takes charge of his first game as RB Leipzig manager against the club who relieved him of his duties last season in Borussia Dortmund. The hosts sit 11th in the Bundesliga after a poor start, while Dortmund have chance to go top of the table if results go their way, given they sit in second place.

Inter vs Torino – 17:00 BST

Over to Italy, last season’s Serie A runners-up occupy the teatime slot as Torino come to visit San Siro.

Inter have won three and lost two of their opening five league games, leaving them stranded in eighth place. While only separated by a point, Torino actually sit above them in the table in sixth and could make a good start a great one by picking up what would be a huge away victory. The stakes are already high.

Sampdoria vs AC Milan – 19:45 BST

Scudetto winners Milan head to Genoa to take on Sampdoria, having beat their city rivals in a thrilling game last time out in Serie A.

Sampdoria, meanwhile, are yet to win a game this season. But what’s the best way to kickstart a campaign? Turning over the reigning champions, of course. Milan cannot afford a slip up.

Marseille vs Lille – 20:00 BST

French football doesn’t quite get the flowers it deserves. Plenty of top players and emerging talents, fierce atmospheres and often entertaining games.

Marseille vs. Lille looks set to tick all those boxes. Two of Ligue 1’s biggest sides going at it to round off Saturday night. Nice.

Sunday 11 September

Real Madrid vs Mallorca – 13:00 BST

Injury to Karim Benzema means Eden Hazard is likely to lead the line for Real Madrid as they continue to defend their La Liga crown.

Benzema has been exceptional, so to see how they will operate without him leading the line will be intriguing. Add to the fact that Hazard finally looks to have found some fitness, and it’s the perfect time for fans of English football to tune in and roll back the years by watching the Belgian in action.

Juventus vs Salernitana – 19:45 BST

Midweek defeat to Paris Saint-Germain was disappointing for Juventus but they have no time to sulk, with a visit from Salernitana fast approaching.

Juve are four points adrift of top spot in the Serie A table. And with Salernitana starting well this season – sitting in 10th heading into the weekend – the Old Lady cannot afford to take their eye off the ball. A win here would do wonders to settle any nerves.

Monaco vs Lyon – 19:45 BST

Kicking off at the same time, Ligue 1 closes out the weekend with what looks set to be a thrilling fixture as Monaco take on Lyon.

Many have their reservations about the French top-flight, but if you can look past the domestic monopoly PSG have managed to forge for the most part, it’s wildly entertaining. Two extremely talented sides lock horns on Sunday evening in a game which could explode with goals and end-to-end action.
