Federal Government Closes Eko Bridge For 8 Weeks

The Federal Government has announced the closure of Eko Bridge and its ramps for eight weeks, starting from 7:00 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, until Nov. 20, to allow for asphalt resurfacing work.

In a statement released early Saturday by the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, the project is intended to improve road safety and enhance the driving experience for motorists by addressing wear and tear. The work will involve milling the existing asphalt and relaying new asphalt on the bridge and ramps.

The closure will be full in some sections and partial in others. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes during the closure:

  • To Island from Funsho Williams Avenue: Use the service lane at Alaka to connect Costain and access Eko Bridge.
  • To Island (via Apongbon): Use Costain to link Eko Bridge and connect Apongbon.
  • From Apongbon inwards Eko Bridge: Link Costain to access Funsho Williams Avenue.
  • From Costain inwards Alaka/Funsho Williams Avenue: Pass through Apapa Road from Costain, link Oyingbo to access Adekunle, and connect to Third Mainland Bridge.
  • Surulere Traffic: Use Costain to link Breweries and access Abebe Village, then connect to Eric Moore/Bode Thomas.

Kesha urged motorists and residents to plan their travel accordingly and assured the public that traffic control measures and signage would be in place to guide drivers and pedestrians. She apologized for any inconvenience caused and thanked the public for their patience as the ministry works to improve infrastructure.
