Hilda Dokubo Responds To Suspension News From Labour Party

Nollywood actress Hilda Dokubo has responded to her alleged suspension from the Labour Party (LP) in her ward in Asari Toru Local Government Area (LGA) of Rivers State.

The LP chairperson in Rivers was reportedly suspended on Thursday after an emergency meeting of the party’s ward executive committee on July 15. Dokubo faced accusations of financial misconduct, abuse of office, and breaching party regulations.

A letter addressed to the LP chairman of Asari Toru, signed by Ward Chairman Ajalamonia Ibama, Secretary Lole Amacheer, and Treasurer Emmanuel Ibamathe, indicated her suspension.

In a video shared on Instagram, Dokubo denied the suspension claims, stating, “I was never suspended from the Labour Party.” She asserted that the names in the publication were “Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) members trying to tarnish my image.”

Dokubo alleged that she had been “coerced, threatened, and bribed” but described the allegations as a “new way to hurt me.”

“I was never suspended. Everyone mentioned in that publication is not a Labour Party member. The Labour Party has a register, and we know all our members, especially in Asari Toru, which is a small community. These are all PDP boys carrying out their master’s instructions,” she said.

She questioned the motives behind the allegations, highlighting her 30-year unblemished career in Nollywood and her 10-year work with international organizations, emphasizing her integrity and honor.

“When they say you venture into politics, you enter murky waters. This is corruption pushing back. This broadcast may just be one of several to come. So let me preempt you.

“My supporters, we have work to do. We are revalidating membership and registering members, strengthening our wards. Stay focused and do not get distracted. When people try to bribe you and you refuse, they threaten you. When you refuse to be threatened, they will find ways to hurt you.

“At no time was I suspended. I had no dealings with money. We do not have money. I am the chairman of the Labour Party Rivers State, not a financial secretary or treasurer. I am not even an executive of Ward 3. They missed the point. So, let’s get back to work.”
