Convicted kidnap kingpin Chukwudimeme Onwuamadike, alias Evans, has claimed to have repented from his criminal activities and has applied to the Lagos State Government for mercy.
Through his lawyer, Emefo Etudo, Evans made this statement after pleading not guilty to five counts of murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping.¹
Evans and his co-defendant, Joseph Emeka, are accused of killing two people, Peter Nweke and Chijioke Ngozi, on August 27, 2013, in FESTAC Town, Lagos. Despite the severity of the charges, Evans’ lawyer emphasized that his client has undergone significant reformation while in prison.
Some notable developments in Evans’ case include:
– Plea Bargain Application: Evans has applied for a plea bargain through his lawyer, which will be examined by the appropriate committee.
– Remorse and Reformation: Evans claims to have become remorseful and has undergone reformation through the efforts of the Redeemed Christian Church of God and the Federal Government.
– Education: Evans is currently a 200-level student at the National Open University of Nigeria and has made excellent grades in his studies, thanks to a scholarship from the Federal Government.
– Community Service: Evans’ lawyer has requested that he be given the opportunity to speak to youths in schools about the dangers of crime.
The case has been adjourned to March 20, 2025, for possible trial.
