Gernot Rohr’s men have Kick-started the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers on an excellent note after their dominant display at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos, Iheanacho shining.
Iheanacho’s first-half brace was enough to see off the Liberians in what was a smooth-sailing ride for the three-time AFCON Champions, Nigeria.
His first came in the 22nd minute before hitting the ball past the Liberian goalkeeper, Williams Ashley in the 44th minute to double Nigeria’s lead.
Julio Tavares’ 36th-minute goal for Cape Verde was canceled by Tresor Toropite’s 53rd-minute strike.
The Super Eagles will attempt to consolidate on the lead when they face Cape Verde in an away match on Tuesday.
With the win, Nigeria was shooted atop the Group C table with three points ahead of Cape Verde and Central Africa Republic (CAR), both on a point apiece.
They are followed by both Cape Verde Island and Central African Republic who both played 1-1 on Wednesday.
Nigeria will face Cape Verde in its next game away on September 7 while Liberia host Central Africa Republic on September 6.
