Jigawa Governor Suspends Commissioner Auwalu Sankara Amid Allegations of Extramarital Affair

Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has suspended the Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwalu Sankara, following accusations of involvement in an extramarital affair with a married woman, as alleged by the Kano State Hisbah Board.

The suspension, announced in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Bala Ibrahim, aims to allow for a comprehensive investigation, ensuring transparency and upholding the integrity of the state administration.

Sankara was reportedly apprehended by the Hisbah, the Islamic moral police, after being accused of having an affair with a married woman named Tasleem Baba Nabegu. The arrest allegedly took place in an unfinished building owned by Sankara, following a complaint by the woman’s brother-in-law.

Dr. Abba Sufi, the Director General of the Hisbah Board, confirmed the arrest, adding that Sankara might face additional charges related to operating illegal drug centers under the names Picklock and 360.

In response to the allegations, Sankara vehemently denied any wrongdoing in a statement released Friday night. He described the accusations as “false, baseless, and malicious,” claiming they were politically motivated attempts to tarnish his reputation.

“I categorically state that these allegations are completely false, baseless, and malicious, aimed at tarnishing my reputation,” Sankara said. “As a married man, I have the utmost respect for the institution of marriage and would never engage in actions that violate its sanctity.”

Sankara also vowed to pursue legal action against those responsible for spreading the accusations, calling the claims a deliberate attack on his character and integrity.
