LeBron James is set to become a part-owner of Fenway Sports Group, the American company that owns both Liverpool FC.
The LA Lakers ace, who already owns a two per cent shareholding in Liverpool, is poised to join John W. Henry, Tom Werner et al in the ownership structure of FSG.
According to the Boston Globe, the NBA superstar and his longtime business partner Maverick Carter will be buying into the company – despite the fact they also own Major League Baseball club Boston Red Sox.
It is believed he and Carter will be buying into the company at an undisclosed price.
Reports of their imminent deal comes on the back of Gerry Cardinale’s RedBird Capital Partners acquiring an 11 per cent stake in FSG for a staggering $750million.
LeBron has over a decade’s worth of experience working with FSG’s consulting and marketing arm FSM.
In 2011, he paid $6.5million to purchase a two per cent stake in Premier League club Liverpool.
He and Carter will also become FSG’s first black partners.
