Max Air has suspended its domestic flight operations for three months, effective midnight January 31, 2025.
This decision comes after one of its aircraft, a Boeing 737-400, suffered a tyre burst during landing at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport on January 28, 2025.
Fortunately, all 53 passengers and crew members on board were evacuated safely. However, this incident marks the third occurrence involving Max Air within three months, prompting the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to take action.
During the suspension period, the NCAA will conduct a thorough safety and economic audit of Max Air. The safety audit will re-inspect the airline’s organization, procedures, personnel, and aircraft, while the economic audit will examine its financial health to ensure sustainable safe flight operations.⁴ ⁵
The NCAA has assured that the resumption of Max Air’s domestic flight operations will depend on the satisfactory completion of this audit. While acknowledging the potential inconvenience to passengers, the NCAA prioritizes safety and well-being, appealing for patience and understanding during this period.
