Meghan Markle Arriving For First Official Event Alongside The Queen

Actress Meghan Markle has arrived for her first official engagement alongside the Queen. Prince Harry and his soon to be wife walked arm in arm into Westminster Abbey to join senior royals at a service to mark Commonwealth Day.

Meghan matched Harry in a navy dress by Amanda Wakeley, with a white coat by the same designer, and matching hat by Stephen Jones.

The Queen arrived shortly afterward, wearing burgundy.

This is the first ‘public acknowledgment’ by the Queen of the American actress ahead of her wedding to Harry on May 19. Meghan has made a number of official visits as part of her preparations to join the royal family, but never before alongside the Queen.

Prince William and Kate arrived at the same time as Meghan and Harry. All eyes were on the Duchess’ baby bump as she arrived in a dress and coat by Beulah and hat by Lock and Co.

In her Commonwealth Day message, which will feature in the service, the Queen is expected to praise the ‘Commonwealth connection’ that allows people from different nations to bond and celebrate ‘diversity’. London will soon host a gathering of leaders from the ‘family of nations’. The Queen said the event, bringing people from across the Commonwealth together, will ‘help to create a future that is fairer, more secure, more prosperous and sustainable’.
