This is the 22nd day of Melania Trump’s absence from the public eye as White House announced she would not join her husband at Camp David this weekend.
President Trump was scheduled to depart for the Maryland retreat on Friday afternoon without the first lady, who was last seen May 10 when the couple welcomed home three American detainees from North Korea.
Melania was hospitalized at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for what her spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham said was “an embolization procedure to treat a benign kidney condition” on May 14,
She stayed for five days after what Grisham said was a “successful” procedure and returned to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
There are unfounded rumors and conspiracy theories swirled about the lengthy absence of the intensely private first lady, who took to Twitter on Wednesday to dispel rumors.
“I see the media is working overtime speculating where I am & what I’m doing. Rest assured, I’m here at the @WhiteHouse with my family, feeling great, & working hard on behalf of children & the American people!” she tweeted.
On Friday, Grisham insisted that Melania “is fine, she’s doing great,” according to CNN.
The president added to the air of mystery himself on May 25 as he prepared to board Marine One to attend the commencement at the US Naval Academy.
He responded to a question about FLOTUS’ whereabouts by pointing to a White House window and saying: “She’s doing great. She’s looking right at us right there,” the Washington Post reported.
Reporters turned to look at the spot he indicated – but there was no first lady in sight.
