Nigeria’s High Commission, London has fired over 50 staff. This is over an alleged restructuring of the organization and budgetary constraints.
The dismissed staff of the Nigeria High Commission London were asked to accept the letter that was dated 22nd of November, 2018, it was gathered that the Commission claimed the dismissal took effect from 1st of January 2018.
Speaking on anonymity basis, a source disclosed that the staff were disengaged, so the management of the commission can employ their friends and family members into the vacant positions. The dismissed 50 staff were also asked reapply for the same job if they so wish.
A displaced staff of the commission who called on President Muhammadu Buhari, the Federal Government of Nigeria to look into the matter, said;
“We want the World to see how we are been ill-treated just because we asked for our salaries. This is so unfair and an injustice to democratic rule”.
“Within the next days, if nothing semblance of transparency as to how the Mission intends to carry out this process is put before us, then we have no other option but to grant a press interview to the BBC and other Nigerian media stations who are requesting to get further details from us”.
