Premier League Has Confirmed Resumption Of Play With 7 Of The 10 Scheduled Games

The Premier League has confirmed that it will resume this weekend, despite the fact that three of the ten scheduled games have been postponed due to the events surrounding The Queen’s funeral.

Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, football was postponed across England and the United Kingdom over the weekend.

Due to severe police resource constraints, the Premier League fixture list has been called into question. Football officials now face the prospect of postponing more games because there isn’t enough room in the schedule to fit them in.

Liverpool’s trip to Chelsea and Manchester United’s clash with Leeds have both been called off, as well as the already postponed Brighton vs Crystal Palace fixture.

A Premier League statement reads: “Premier League fixtures will resume this weekend after a pause to the season as a mark of respect following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

“Seven of the 10 Premier League fixtures this weekend will be played, with three matches postponed due to events surrounding The Queen’s funeral.

“In addition, kick-off times will change for two Premier League matches.

“Matches postponed on Sunday 18 September are Chelsea’s matches against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge, and Manchester United’s home match v Leeds United.

“Brighton & Hove Albion’s fixture against Crystal Palace, that was due to be played at 15:00 BST on Saturday 17 September, will also remain postponed.”

“New dates for the postponed matches will be announced in due course.”

When can Chelsea vs Liverpool & Man Utd vs Leeds be played?

With the World Cup being played in the winter months this year, there is little space in the calendar. A lot of teams are already playing twice a week due to commitments in Europe and cup competitions.

The next available slot would be Tuesday 17 January and Wednesday 18 January 2023.

Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, Leeds, Brighton and Crystal Palace now already have two Premier League games each which need rearranging.
