Chelsea have confirmed the summer signing of Thiago Silva joining on a free transfer.
The Brazilian left PSG in the summer after their Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich on Sunday, and is on his way to west London.
Silva will add some real experience to a defence who struggled over the course of the 2019/20 campaign.
It is seen as a short-term fix for Frank Lampard, with the 35-year-old looking to steady the ship at the back for the Stamford Bridge outfit.
But with Silva’s arrival, it means that the Blues are set to let one of their current defenders go this season.
It would be between Kurt Zouma, Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Fikayo Tomori, and it’s likely to be the latter who moves on.
It wouldn’t be on a permanent basis, with Tomori having signed a new five-year contract with the Blues last December.
However, after slipping down the pecking order at the back towards the end of last season, the 22-year-old could be sent out on loan.
There are several interested parties in taking Tomori on loan, with Everton and Fulham keeping tabs on the youngster.
Lampard is a fan of the centre-back and is in his long-term plans for the future, however he could struggle for game time in the upcoming season.
So Tomori could be the centre-back who heads out for the 2020/21 campaign in order to get more playing minutes.
