U.S: Georgia Lawmakers Propose Legalizing Medical Marijuana Sales

Georgia Legislators will consider bills next year to allow medical marijuana to be grown in Georgia and sold to patients after a state commission unanimously endorsed the proposal.

The group studying Georgia’s medical marijuana laws voted last week to pursue legislation that would license marijuana growers, manufacturers and dispensaries.

If approved, Georgia’s 6,000 registered medical marijuana patients could legally obtain the drug for the first time.

The state’s medical marijuana law, passed in 2015, allows patients to possess and use marijuana with less than 5 percent THC, but it remains illegal to buy, sell or transport it. THC is the main psychoactive component of the cannabis plant.
