A meeting of the National Economic Council is set to kick off now in Abuja.
It is presided over by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
State governors are attending the session, the first after the inauguration of the new government and the inauguration on fresh ministers by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday.
Findings indicate that the National Livestock Transformation Plan is a likely item on the agenda.
The Ministry of Agriculture had earlier started a version of the plan, otherwise called ‘Ruga’, but was suspended on July 2 on the orders of Buhari.
The government’s latest position on the controversial Ruga is that the new Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (Mr Sabo Nanono), will set up a review committee to reconcile all the issues surrounding the implementation of the programme.
The committee will draw membership from the Federal Executive Council, the NEC, and the Governors’ Forum.
